GOD DARED US
GOD DARED US.
"Put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, And see if I do not open the floodgates of heaven for you, and pour down upon you blessing without measure!" (Malachi 3:10) (John 7:38).
We tested him. We fed his flesh and blood into the mouth of the monster of the Crucifixion. Its sharp teeth chewed him up into bits and pieces. Its tongue was as sharp as its teeth. “Where is your savior now?”, the tongue of the Crucifixion taunted Jesus. “Despair! Abandon hope! You are alone and forsaken. Nobody is coming to rescue you” (Matthew 27:42 - 46). The weight of his dire predicament became heavier and heavier with each bite of the Crucifixion. The absence of a savior pushed Jesus to the edge of despair. He cried out, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me"(Matthew 27:46)?
From the depths of the darkness of the Crucifixion, Jesus launched the fireball of forgiveness (Jeremiah 31:31-34)(Luke 23:34 )(Acts 10:43) (Matthew 6:12) (Matthew 18:21-35) (Luke 7:47) into the Valley of Tears to illuminate the darkness of our understanding of God in a glorious burst of epiphany. God thought the best way to give the children of Adam and Eve a high fidelity, first class approximation of him was by means of fireworks - awesome and spectacular celestial fireworks.
“… And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more” (Jeremiah 31:31-34)
The light of forgiveness erupted from the darkness of the Crucifixion to reset the world on a new foundation (2 Corinthians 5:17). The gentle answer that Jesus gave us to the evil that we did to him is the foundation on which the edifice of Christianity is built. HIS GENTLE ANSWER TO THE EVIL THAT WE DID TO HIM IS THE ROCK ON WHICH THE WISE BUILD THEIR LIVES (Matthew 7:24-27).
“The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up” (Matthew 4:16)(2 Peter 1:19).
Through his bloody wounds, the sweet syrup of forgiveness poured into the Valley of Tears to dilute its toxicity in the same way that sugar cubes dilute the bitterness of a cup of bad coffee. Dilution is God’s solution to the problem of evil.
Out of the depths of the darkness of the Crucifixion, Jesus launched a fireball to illuminate the darkness of our understanding of God in a glorious burst of epiphany. He revealed God to us with awesome and spectacular celestial fireworks. “The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up” (Matthew 4:16)(2 Peter 1:19). In the fireball, the audacity of God shown. He forgave us even though we did not deserve forgiveness. Our God took the first step of forgiveness in the hope that we would take the second step of repentance. He did not wait for our conversion to forgive us. He forgave us to bring about our conversion.
